Descriptions of Compounds

Common Names:
ABS, Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene

Description:

ABS (Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene) is one of the most common plastics used in injection molding because it is low-cost and easy to fabricate. ABS is a tough and rigid plastic resin with medium impact strength, good chemical resistance and dimensional stability.

Applications:

Medical Components
Small Appliances
Automotive Parts
Laboratory Equipment
Computer Housings

Common Names:
Acetal, POM, Polyoxymethylene, Delrin®

Description:

Acetal (POM) (Polyoxymethylene) is a crystalline plastic that is very strong & stiff. There are two types of Acetal resins: Acetal Homopolymer (Delrin®) & Acetal Copolymer. Acetal polymers offer a good fatigue resistance and chemical resistance as well as low-moisture sensitivity.  Acetal polymers are available in lubricated grades.

Applications:

Mechanical Components
Small Appliances
Automotive Parts
Industrial Applications
Computer Housings

Common Names:
Acrylic, PMMA, Polymethyl Methacrylate

Description:

Acrylic (PMMA) (Polymethyl Methacrylate) is a strong, highly transparent plastic that can come in a variety of colors. It has outsanding strength and stiffness as well as superior resistance to ultraviolet radiation and weathering. It has good dimensional stability and good light transmission.

Applications:
Light Fixtures
Consumer Products
Automotive Transparent Parts
Safety Equipment

Common Names:
HDPE (High Density Polyethylene)

Description:

HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) is a very popular plastic because of its low-cost, light-weight and versatility.  More advantages of HDPE include moisture resistance, good chemical resistance, food grades available & impact resistance from -40° C to 90° C.

Applications:
Medical Components
Consumer Products
Automotive Parts
Pipe & Processing Equipment

Common Names:
LDPE, Low Density Polyethylene

Description:

LDPE (Low Density Polyethylene) is a very popular plastic because of its low-cost, light-weight and versatility.  LDPE is softer and more flexible than HDPE. Similarly to HDPE, LDPE has good moisture resistance, good chemical resistance, has food grades available & impact resistance from -40° C to 90° C.

Applications:
Medical Components
Consumer Products
Automotive Parts
Pipe & Processing Equipment

Common Names:
Nylon

Description:

Nylon is one of the most common plastics used in injection molding because of its versatility & cost-to-performance ratio. Nylon can be reinforced with glass fibers in amounts of 10%, 20%, 30% & 40%. The different types of  Nylons range in price.

Applications:
Industrial Products
Bearings, Brackets & Bumpers
Automotive Components
Consumer Products
Electronic Connectors

Common Names:

Polycarbonate, PC

Description:

PC (Polycarbonate) is a transparent thermoplastic known for its high impact strength. PC has good clarity, good dimensional stability, a high heat deflection temperature, low deformation under load and is easy to fabricate and machine.

Applications:

Medical Instrument & Equipment Parts
Brackets & Structural Parts
Exterior Automotive Components
Telecommunication Components
